Day Fourteen with pup - Aged 10 weeks and 4 days

Pup is on a road trip! This weekend Malcolm and I packed our bags and headed to Colchester to visit my dad and my sister. He was so quiet all the way and just slept most of it on the passenger seat.

He loves my sister and she is clearly in love with him! He has been out and explored the garden, has peed throughout most of the house and destroyed anything he can get his teeth on but with that cute puppy face how can anyone be mad?!

Its been a tiring day tho and so at the mo he is fast asleep by me feet.

Pup Catch up! - Day Thirteen with pup - Aged 10 weeks and 2 days

So I have missed a few days of pups blog but thats because we have been off exploring the world together!

Last Friday pup had his first outing to the livery yard. He met Paddy the boxer dog and really didnt know what to make of him. Paddy of course got very excited and started foaming at the mouth and then decided to lick my little pup so he ended up white and sticky from all the paddy foam! After this encounter I took him to meet my horses. This is the first time pup will have seen a horse so what did he do when one came walking over to see him? He rolled over onto his back and if I hadnt of whisked him out the way he would have been squashed flat. So with him now safely in my arms instead of on the ground we said hello to the horses. He licked their noses and tried to chew one of my horses nostrels but that was fair seeing as my horse Lennie had tried to chew little Malcolms tail first! He even managed a short trip sat on the back of my shetland pony Evie! So all in all he is pretty non fussed by horses but if he was allowed to run around with them I cant see him lasting more than about 2 secs so I am gonna have to watch him carefully for a while.

Then we did another new thing - had a ride on a quad bike. He was a bit uncertain as to how to treat this growling monster that seemed to move when he wasnt expecting and yet didnt run away when he barked at it. I sat on the back while my friend drove and little pup sat on my lap. He seemed to enjoy the feeling of the wind in his fur and before long his tongue was out, his ears were flapping and his tail was wagging as hard as it could. I definately have a speed freak dog it seems!

On Monday he met the yard dog Mia who is a Jack Russell. Malcolm was very interested in Mia and I think he now has a new girlfriend. He loves to play with her and was almost disappointed when she lost interest in him as chasing rabbits is much more fun than keeping a puppy amused!
We got a lovely picture of all the yard dogs together:

Car journeys are fun. Sometimes he barks all the way and othertimes he just wants to sleep. He can get out of his car harness as he is so small and yesterday spent the whole journey under my car seat!

He has also been on a play date to Paddys house where despite Malcolms best efforts Paddy didnt want to play and was infact growling at Malcolm the whole time incase he dared to sleep on his blanket!

Day five with pup - 9 weeks and two days

I am completely in love with my puppy! He is so pleased to see me and follows me everywhere and I love it when he wags his tail so hard he nearly falls over!

Another of my friends came over to meet pup tonight and once again he was straight over to say hi and was chewing on his shoelaces. My kitties are getting used to having him around now and even Karma is taking to him and even playing with him from the safety of the cat hammock!

He has learnt to sit already and will do it even without treats. I want to make sure that he knows that one for definate before we move onto anything else!

He may chew my toes and have a few accidents but getting my puppy was one of the best decisions I have ever made!!

Day 4 with Pup - 9 weeks one day

Today poor pup had an upset tummy. He was still eating well its just as fast as it was going in it was coming out the other end. Having paniced and read everything I can on the internet about Pups and upset tummies he made a miraculous recovery.

So I went to work and Malcolm spent the day asleep as he seems to enjoy doing. That evening he had his frist visitors to the house. His pet sitter for the weekend came round and he went running to greet her before proceeding to maul the bottom of her trousers!! He was so excited and followed her round while I was trying to explain everything, tripping her up at every opportunity and making a dash for the door as she left. Once she had gone he went back to mauling my trousers as he seems to love doing. About ten mins later one of my friends turned up and he was straight to the door realising that this is the portal through which new playmates arrive!! He was all over my friend, playing and trying to playfight. Only his dinner could distract him.

He slept in the bed as usual last night but at around 5 am I heard a loud thud and a big whimpering noise from where pup had rolled over and fallen off the edge of the bed it seems!! I picked him up, gave him a kiss and then he wanted back on the floor so he could try and climb the wardrobe. In the last two days he has discovered the fact that dogs can actually jump and is now trying to jump onto everything. He doesnt realise how small he is though and at the moment cannot even jump up to climb the stairs! I wonder how many days it will take before he realises he can run up and down between levels of the house!

Days two and three with pup - 9 weeks

Well pup has really settled in well and I am seeing more and more of his character each day. At night he is sleeping nearly the whole way through. He sleeps in the bed with me which I know all the books say dont do but he is so cute and he seems much happier when he can snuggle up to me! He is so good and doesnt do any nasty business in the bed but instead starts squeaking when he needs to go. This gives me enough time to get him either downstairs and out the front door (if its not too cold) or over to his special puppy trainning pads. Once he is done he is quite happy to come back to bed and tends to fall asleep within seconds!!

Today he had to cope with being alone while I went to work. I set up a webcam to watch him and make sure he was ok and honestly I think he moved twice and spent the rest of the day fast asleep!! When I got home he was so excited to see me he was wagging his tail so fast that he unbalanced himself and fell over. Honestly I have never laughed so hard!!

He is playing more now and loves running around with his toys. He has also developed a little bark now which he loves to use on my cats when they are not looking to make them jump!

Anyway mine and Malcolms bedtime now although I think hes been asleep the whole time I have been writing this!!

Day one with Malcolm - 8 weeks and 5 days old

When we got home the first thing I did was get him out of his box and put him in my garden so he could go to the loo. He wasnt interested in going to the loo with all these exciting new things to see!! Instead it was time to chew plants and chase people and introduce himself to Google, one of my cats. We had a little explore and then I popped him into his new playpen for 10 mins just so the other cats could see him and get used to him. My cat Spud didnt seem bothered by him but he was brought up with a pair of Alsatians until I got him so my little boy is nothing in comparison. Rocha was interested by the new creature sitting in her living room but wasnt nasty to it but she decided it needed watchin to make sure it didnt chew her toys or heaven forbid eat her food! Geoff was the cat I was most worried about seeing as he doesnt like change. However he just sat next to the pen watching pup for a while before getting bored and heading off outside to find a neighbourhood cat to terrorise instead. Now Karma was the biggest challenge. Having found Karma at the side of a road miles from any house when she was only 6 weeks old I thought the presense of a new animal might scare her. She has come round to me and is very much a mummies girl so I didnt want her to feel threaterned by the new pup. At first she puffed herself up so she looked twice her size and was doing her best to intimidate little pup. No such luck as he went bounding over to see her. Her response was to smack him on the head as hard as she could which caused Malcolm to scream as loud as he could and after this she seemed to relax knowing that she could beat this new animal up and her place in the order of things was safe. Little pup however told me that a giant panther sized animal had attacked him to within an inch of his life and dont I think I should give him lots of food so he gets over it. The truth is that within ten mins he had forgotten this event with Karma and was running at Spud as he ran past!

The rest of the day was spent playing and feeding Malcolm who has already developed a love of the garden and enjoys chasing me and biting my feet at every opportunity he gets.

As for toilet traning we only had one accident in the kitchen which lucky for me has a tilled floor. Every other time he has used his puppy training paper pads which is great as it means no mess and no smell. All in all I am very glad I picked the pup I did and he is really fitting in well.

Collecting Pup

So at 1pm I set off to collect my new puppy having spent the morning trying to puppy proof my house and set up his nighttime crate. It took and hour to get to his breeder but as soon as I knocked at the front door a flurry of barking started up from all over the house and I knew I had the right address. The breeder welcomed me in and introduced me to my little pups dad who proceeded to bark at me and then run off. He was a very handsome chap so I had high hopes for my little pup. I was then taken through to see the puppy playpen and I couldn't believe my eyes. She had two litters in the playpen at the moment. One purebreed litter of Tibetan Spaniels and the litter I had come to see, the half Shit-zu half Tibetan Spaniels. I was allowed the choice of a girl or a boy but already had my heart set on a little black and white boy so asked to see him. I held him close to me and he gazed into my eyes with such warmth. Within ten mins of picking him up he trusted me enough to fall fast asleep and I knew he was the one for me. I asked to see his mum as all the books tell you to and she was as gorgeous as her pup so I knew that my little boy was going to be a handsome little fellow! Turns out my puppy wasn't meant to be and it was only because a secret rendezvous between mum and dad had happened one night that my puppy was here today. Thank goodness for animal determination and natural instinct!

So I put him in his box and took him home. On the journey he just wouldn't settle and was shouting his head off so loudly! Or at least he was until I found radio 2 and from that point on he just laid down with his eyes open, listening to the radio. I was listening to when they had a listener call in. A man called Malcolm from Wales came on and his voice and attitude sounded like how I imagine my puppy would sound could he speak so that sort of confirmed it in my mind. My puppy was going to be called Malcolm.

Here are some pics of him with his litter mates:
